Reboot #2 Days 2-3

Day 1 sucked for me. I was so tired and so hungry all day! But it did lead to some awesome discoveries that I think will help make this Reboot more successful for me.

The first thing I realized is that I felt so sick during the last reboot because my calorie intake was way to low. I did some research and I burn between 300 and 500 calories for each hour of massage I do. Add that to a busy life style of running around to get errands and what not accomplished and the fact that I do between three and five massages, five days a week and you've got a massive calorie deficit. I ended up doing two juices, four cans of V8 (about 140 calories each), and two solid meals on Friday (which included five hours of massage) and on Saturday I woke up feeling much better.

For dinner on Friday I had smashed potatoes with mushrooms, and some celery and humus. Then when I got home from work I ate more celery and humus and another potato. Not the most chef inspired food but I was tired and grumpy. But man was it tasty.

As discussed we had 'Mean Green' for lunch on Friday and it was one of the better versions of it, I think. I find the celery gives juice a very grassy taste that I am still working on enjoying. Which is weird because I can eat celery all the time otherwise, but meh.

We didn't do very well on Saturday as far as juicing at home. We went to the farmers market in the morning and got some awesome carrots (and I do mean awesome, we got them last week too and two bunches just disappears), but found out it was the last week for carrots sadly. We also got some awesome green curly kale, rainbow chard, a small butternut squash, six juicy cucumbers, a large bag of fresh basil, and a small pint of mixed heirloom cherry sized tomatoes.

We have made the switch to buying most of the things we juice locally or at least organically. We have found that though they tend to be smaller (think cabbages) they also tend to be juicier. Especially greens.

Although we still have not made the much needed switch to organic apples... (Yes I KNOW! Biggest offenders of all, seriously no need to yell.)

So Saturday morning we ended up with store bought juice that was basically fruit juice with powder in it. We also bought a new meal replacement veggie powder from a company we really like (Logician can destroy their super greens bars in ten seconds flat), which is okay... but very powdery. We ended up having the powder in an all natural fruit juice for lunch.

Then as part of my solid dinner was this tasty, tasty beast. It features organic green leaf lettuce, some of the aforemention basil, cucumber, and heirloom tomatoes; and was topped with a Tamari Sesame dressing. And before you worry I did not eat the whole thing. Some of it is dinner tonight!

I also made Quinoa (specifically red) for the first time and mixed it with four or five sliced shitake mushrooms, a quarter of a spring onion, a clove of garlic, and some freshly made veggie stock made from the carrot greens and frozen trimmings from the last reboot. It was tasty but a bit bland. I know now that Quinoa is more like coucous that I expected!

I think I only ended up the day with two V8s yesterday but I did have some celery and hummus when I got home. It was another busy day at work (four hours) and I needed a little something to help keep me going.

This was Logicians "Late Night Juice" basically it was his 'I'll drink this so your potato doesn't kill me" drink. He made this while I was cooking my second meal and then drank it while I ate. It's pretty scant but he didn't need a lot of calories. He just wanted something to take the edge off.

He seems to be feeling pretty great and had his second acupuncture appointment yesterday which also seems to be helping him a lot! So we went into Sunday, our glorified day off together, with the hope we would wake up feeling even better.

And we did!

Since today is our day off we spent the morning kind of not doing anything. We slept in and then decided to make our juice. The problem was we only had one apple! We were using a recipe so that couldn't stand. We whisked ourselves off to the grocery and picked up some more apples (of which we already need more), some red grapefruit, some more lemons, some bananas, grapes, and I got a portabella cap for tomorrows solid meal.

Our breakfast juice was based off The Juicing Bible and the recipe is called "The Chiller." We modified it because once we had a look at the recipe we realized it was a bit lacking in the meal replacement category. So we added some ginger and kale. But it turned out not to be enough juice so we also added an extra apple, a banana, and a lemon. It was a fairly bland juice but we were happy enough with it that we drank it and went on with our lives.

I had another V8 around noon just to stave off the hungry feeling I was having, and followed that by two cups of broth around two. Since I am off work today I am trying to limit myself to more liquid food until dinner time. When I will have some quinoa or a baked potato and some of that delicious salad.

For our lunch/dinner juice we invented our own. This is something we have to be cautious about, because during the last reboot we started inventing our own and found they didn't have enough nutrients or calories to really help us out. That is part of why we stopped at fifteen days.

This was the monster. Although you can immediately disregard the juice in the measuring cup as it was not needed.

Those grapes.... We bought them this morning and I snuck one while we were prepping the juice, it must have been one of the most amazing grapes I have ever eaten. Not kidding.

So this juice was four cups of grapes, two Fiji apples, a red grapefruit, two 1/2" wide slices of turnip, about an 1/8 of a fennel bulb, and a bunch of rainbow chard. It was pretty tasty but the turnip was almost too much and it was very sweet. Next time we'll leave out the apples and add in another veggie.

All in all we're doing well though we did not weigh ourselves the morning we started like we were supposed to. We'll likely have to go and do so tomorrow morning. I know the last time we weighed ourselves I was at 211 (ick, I've gone back up) and he was at 219.

Man those grapes are taunting me! :D

Namaste.
