Another day another Bento

So today was a crazy day, and I will spare you all the details but let's just say I'm glad it's almost time for bed. I didn't have a Bento for lunch today as Logician didn't eat his from Tuesday. So I was lazy and instead bought some of the vegetarian food they serve on campus. It was nummy but I found that I deeply missed my Bento.

Logician had a test review this evening so while I was sitting and writing in my journal I got the idea that I should make Bento for tomorrow. Which for him will be a surprise as he has no school tomorrow. I was going to try to be creative and make a "pass your test" Bento complete with a rice "paper" with an A on it. But when I got down to the making of the Bento the creativeness left me. So instead I made a new recipe for the steak.

Massage Life and Bento

So this is the second full week of school and surprisingly I already have learned the key strokes for Swedish massage. I am amazed at how much I have learned in such a short time! If only my W2 would get here from the A/C company I'd be able to file my taxes and buy a table... Alas it will come.

I haven't been blogging much because of schedules, lack of ingredients for Bento, and just plain exhaustion. Also a I have been trying out Star Trek Online which is awesome (not the best MMO in the world but awesome). So that has gotten all my spare time. I am enjoying things and glad to be back into the Bento swing of things. Logician has been working very hard with school and is now enjoying cooking the meat that I put in the Bento. He started Sunday night with delicious Tilapia that he made for dinner and for Bento, and tonight he made some steak for dinner and his Bento and pork chops for my Bento (because the steak didn't go as far as I'd have liked for Bento, but was nummy in my tummy for dinner!).

So on to the Bento!

Another Catch Up Post

So again time has gotten away from me. I have not been making as many Bento as I would like but that is going to change once I can get to the store and get more supplies. I want to try making some home made pickles (such as carrots and daikon) sometime soon. I didn't know there were so many amazing Bento Blogs on the net!

I am probably going to start taking our Bento into a less meat / more veggies and vegetarian direction in the near future. I am not making the full switch myself (although I just recently read an article on being a "Flexetarian") but since I am in massage school and it's a place of growth on all levels I was considering making the lunch time switch. There are a lot of other sites I need to go check out like Hapa Bento, Hawaiian Bento, and if I recall correctly a site about Cute Bento. A lot of these bloggers are releasing their own cookbooks this year which I cannot wait to drop money on. The few I have found at the store are not as instructional as I would like, though the author of Lunch in a box has a few good ones.

Catching Up

It has been a while since I posted. The holidays got the best of me and there was a lot of transition in my life. For the New Year I have a new career goal (Massage Therapy, School starts the 13th) and a new job. My schedule is going to be a nightmare so Bento-ing is going to require a lot of planning ahead and weekend work. Thankfully JustBento.com's Maki and AIBento.net / BentoCentral.com's Pikko have provided me lots of useful make ahead tips. I have to admit I feel extremely lucky being able to google the word Bento and find such amazing knowledge bases out there! I could never have gotten to where I am without the net!

So let me bore you for a moment with my New Year's Resolutions and I shall give you the Bento's I have not yet posted.

I resolve for 2010:
1) To reduce the amount of garbage and food waste I produce by Bentoing more, and buying less packaged food items when possible.
2) To recycle more
3) To use public transportation as often as possible and rely on cars less
4) To try to get below 210 lbs before my birthday in July (with school, work, and Bento this should be easier)
5) To travel out of Florida for some sort of actual vacation
6) To try to save some money!!!
7) To get my Herb garden up and running AND to take care of all the plants
8) To try and take a Japanese language course by the end of the year
9) To explore more cuisines
10) To be thankful every day for what I have instead of upset over what I don't.
